Workplace Etiquette: Respecting Space of Others!

One of the more difficult decisions to make is spending your ever-slimming training dollars on programs and skill development that seemingly have no real-world connection to your organizational mission.  But, and it’s a big BUT!  Re-think your decision to address employees over an office move and reorganization of desk space and/or cubicle design.  Nothing is more important than morale and the general issues related to tolerance, diversity and respect for the space of the other person.  What one agency found in a recent workplace redesign had them thinking.  A number of employees and their work spaces were re-configured into a new world of cubicle walls and being along-side co-workers within whisper-hearing and bad breath distance.  Problems soon arose that could only be described as etiquette challenging and nerve wrecking.   Sights, sounds, and smells ran amok!  So, the management team went to discover training resources that could help employees understand the need to respect the space of others, and to be more mindful of others working nearby.  You’ll find a number of training vendors offering workplace etiquette training and seminars about such topics addressed in this post.
Christine Martin writes an interesting and well-said article on just these topics: “Cubicle Etiquette, and How To Survive Life in A Cube” – Read more
