Rotary Club: Ideal Organizational Development Tools!

Rotary  International (Rotary.Org)
One example of the resources spotlighted on this blog is Rotary International and the associated worldwide clubs that espouse the virtues of service to others. The organization is an excellent model in its self administration and the tools utilized to promote the betterment of its mission and goals through training. The training and organizational resources found on Rotary.org are amazingly filled with tools that can benefit any organization in its efforts to develop leadership, member contributions and project goal success. And the Rotary website resources are posted and easily viewed as long as their terms and conditions are met as posted for non-member use.

The Rotary Leadership Training Handbook - Leadership Development: Your Guide to Starting A Program is one aspect of their success that offers excellent examples and is a virtual model for any organization intending to better itself.  You can find this resource at

http://www.rotary.org/RIdocuments/en_pdf/250en.pdf

This handbook gives an overview of 10 recommended leadership topics: Communication skills; Leadership styles; Leading and motivating volunteers; Mentoring; Time management; Goal setting and accountability; Strategic planning; Ethics and The Four-Way Test; Building consensus; and Teamwork.  The website informs that it is best to conduct a needs assessment ahead of starting work on creating a training program.

"Before implementing a leadership development program, consider what your fellow club members will find beneficial and what the club wants to accomplish. A needs assessment will help you identify program objectives and determine which skills participants want to focus on. Refer to the District Training Manual (246-EN) for needs-assessment tips as well as a sample questionnaire."

Some of the other resources include: how to develop strategic goals, train the trainer guides, communication strategies, and best practices in community building, membership development and more.  Once at the website, click the Members tab and then Training.   Read more
