Please join us for the second meeting of this new Work-Life Network.
The inaugural event on October 15th was a success by any criteria: The turnout was outstanding (50+ people attended); according to the feedback forms there was actually enough time devoted to networking (that’s the point of the exercise, after all); the discussion was so engaging and lively that Carrie Clark got an unanticipated workout from repeatedly running the wireless mic from one end of the room to the other; we closed in on a mission statement; brainstormed relevant ideas for future topics; several folks volunteered to host a quarterly meeting during 2011; and it’s free (no membership dues). SO, we consider this forum officially launched!
WHEN: Friday, January 21, 11:00am to 1:00pm
WHERE: The winter meeting will be hosted by Patrice Yao at Deloitte’s office: 1001 G Street @ 11th St, NW 20001.
The Deloitte office is connected to the Metro Center station - no stepping outside into the wretched weather. When getting off the metro, take the 11th Street exit and walk towards the "Washington Offices" sign. Go up two sets of escalators straight into the Deloitte office lobby.
Check in at said lobby before heading up to the Roosevelt Room on the 8th floor, feedbag clutched in hand. Feedbag? Read on…
Deloitte will provide drinks and a veggie tray. Please bring your own brown bag lunch. (OK, we said the meetings are free, but you know better than to expect a free lunch during a challenging economy.)
WHAT: The Importance of Workplace Flexibility Programs In a Challenging Economy, featuring Deloitte’s Anne Weisberg, co-author of Mass Career Customization, and a speaker (TBD) from a Federal agency. Workplace Flexibility practices are the keystone of the work-life portfolio that we will be exploring in depth during our quarterly meetings this year, so we are starting at the very center of things.
We’ll also catch each other up on the latest work-life news, such as highlights from the new GAO report http://www.gao.gov/products/GAO-11-137, top notes from a new WorldatWork flexibility survey, the latest developments and reports coming out of the national Flexibility Forums sponsored by the DOL Women’s Bureau, and whatever is going on of interest at your shop. So come prepared to share what you know and learn about what you don’t, since work-life progress is a dynamic enterprise, in and outside of government circles. On this point, in case there is any lingering confusion, this Network is for both public sector and private industry work-life aficionados. So if you are a Federal employee, invite colleagues from private and non-profit employers, and vice versa.
NEXT STEPS:
1) RSVP to jessica.burrus@worldatwork.org by January 14th.
2) Share this invitation with anyone of your acquaintance you think can or should attend. Any omission on our contact list is purely accidental, so help spread the word.
3) If you have questions, please contact Carrie Clark: carrie.clark@worldatwork.org
4) Pack or buy your lunch early on 1/21 and head over to Deloitte’s office where your professional colleagues will be eagerly waiting to network with you
