Women’s Leadership Styles Characterized As Being More Open & Collaborative


While the climb to the top is often described as cut throat and dog eat dog, Bass and Avolio (1994) wrote that women managers had a more open and consensus building style with their colleagues in decision-making situations.  They viewed these behaviors as being more “suited to running corporations”.

What types of support could help women achieve higher organizational level positions?  More mentoring programs, chances to work with senior management, and more flexible hours were areas noted as in demand by women seeking support in their leadership quests (Noonan, M. - Hudson Thought Leadership Series, V4, I1).
