The holidays bring much joy and comfort to many. But it is also a time of stress for a lot of people. During these recent times, with the economic troubles and high unemployment, and reduction in employee benefits in many corners of industry, workers are feeling the pinch and stressed about not having a way to meet expectations for things like gifts, celebrations, and travel to visit family.
Some basic strategies are necessary to reduce stress and to lighten up the holidays. First, remember that money does not buy happiness and it's the little things we do for each other that provide the most comfort and expresses our love for family and friends. Don't get caught up the marketing schemes to allow yourself to be controlled to buy this year's model or hype! Second, give yourself more time and schedule your day and activities so that you are not feeling rushed. Put something off and feel good about it! Focus on the present and what you can do to give your utmost attention to the work, play and people around you. Laugh and take part in what is going on around you. Don't let the holidays and traditions of your culture or family pass you by. These are the moments that life is all about!
