Models for Developing Accomplishment Statements

There are a number of models to consider to help in developing accomplishment statements either for writing one’s resume or to develop interview answers.  The S.T.A.R. model is one.  Each letter stands as a reminder of the points to cover in developing the concept of your accomplishment.

For example,  S = Situation, what was or is the situation around how you do, or did your work, or make progress?   Some points to cover might be to explain how you were limited by time, resources, or some aspect of the environment you work in.

T = task, what is the task or tasks that you have to complete that allows you to reach your goal(s)?  What were you asked to do?   How much information or description did you receive that describes your mission or project?

A = Action, for instance, what action did you take in to completing your tasks and activities related to your goals?   What were the steps you developed and the plan you created to accomplish the tasks and achieve your goal(s)?

And finally, R = results.  What was the result of your actions and were there any evaluations of your completed work?  Was it a superior result?  Does a percentage or some number help quantify and qualify the results?    For instance, did you complete 100% of the tasks using only 50% of the resources which resulted in a 20% savings over last year’s expenditures?
