Deindividuation: Losing Ourselves!

In some organizations today, the pressure to conform is so great that it leads to less value added from the rich diversity that exists among our different cultures and experiences.  Deindividuation is a term used to describe this and the resulting patterns of conformity.

Two factors of deindividuation noted on ChangingMinds.Org:

Anonymity – members cannot be found.   And,

Diffused responsibility – where members are not responsible for their actions.

Related terms:  Social Contagion, Social Loafing, Normative Social Influence, Risky Shift Phenomenon
