What Is Competency Development?

What is Competency Development?
It is the development of the attributes, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics that contribute to successful performance of a task or job.
In today's world, most organizations are adopting competency models as the framework from which to structure key human resource management programs with and to dedicate resources around.

Competencies help define organizational culture and provide the discipline for meeting the challenges of: recruitment, retention, rewards, training plans and measuring performance.  Learn more by reviewing the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service competency program that promotes leadership through an integrated competency model.  Review the U.S. Transportation Security Administration's competency table to read about competency developmental activities.  See an organizational handbook that lays out a road map for building skills through identification of both Internet and paper-based literature as resources.  Checkout this link posted by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management that highlights the HR Practioner's competency model.
And to view a list of frequently asked questions, visit the U.S. National Institute of Health's Office of HR's fantastic site that boasts a wealth of information.
