The Power of Full Engagement by Jim Lohr & Tony Schwartz

Probably the main premise deducted from this book is that "managing energy, not time, is the key to high performance and personal renewal."  This is different from time management where the focus is on how much we can do in a given time period, setting priorities and letting the clock be the guide and driver.  The author's of this book posit that our energy and the appropriate use of it is where our focus should be directed.  Even to the point that they characterize the positive energy that comes from meaningful rituals, highly specific routines for managing our energy are key to keeping ourselves fully engaged to achieve high performance.  One reviewer, Brian Johnson of PhilosophersNotes, writes we gain by building rituals into our daily lives and that helps put our life enhancing behaviors on "auto-pilot", a much less stressful and energy draining method.   Rituals are powerful means by which we translate our values into actions.

I agree that individual worker rituals will make workers more productive. In order for these rituals to thrive, companies need to establish policies that promote flextime, working from home, and creative, flexible workplaces.
