New Employee Orientation

Health and wellness as well as the many "getting started" topics for new employees and even our senior employees, is key to improving worker productivity and reducing stress levels.  The State of Delaware provides a Supervisor's New Employee Orientation Booklet resource that covers such topics as coaching, feedback, alignment, learning environment, continuous process and culture.   All of these are critical towards creating a healthy organization in terms of not only productivity but to add to the quality of life issues so important to working families.  Another buzz word for new employee orientation is onboarding.  Federal HR types and the Partnership for Public Service has pulled together substantial resources to better inform supervisors and organizations on some best practices.  Checkout the Open HR Resources website for a comprehensive list of resources.  Blog for even more ideas

Government organizations that "gloss over" orientation for new employees and/or supervisors often suffer the consequences in terms of lost productivity, actions inconsistent with organization culture, employee dis-satisfaction, grievances, and complaints. A small investment in a well-planned orientation programs will yield huge organizational dividends.
