13th World Human Resources Congress Keynoter Don Tapscott Comments

View this short video clip of Don Tapscott noting how the field of Human Resources needs to change drastically to become an integral part of our changing society, in part, due to cultural and technological practices and advancements.  He addresses the Net Generation, as key shapers of what is to come and that we should take advantage of their use of technology and social media.  He also bluntly comments that talent management needs to change to be able to recruit the best and brightest, but also to transform the work environment in which we work to allow them to reach their full potential.

Some key points distilled from Tapscott to embrace:

rethink marketing for new talent by using social media,

rethink training and develop and foster lifelong learning principles,

rethink management and steer away from the policing and supervising to promote collaboration and more creative independence in the "how" part of work.

A recently published study of Relationships amongst work values, job characteristics and job involvement in net generation nurses concluded: "We suggest that administrators adopt democratic management practices, build diverse learning methods, strengthen autonomy, completeness, and feedback, and provide appropriate work guidance for nurses to increase job involvement."
