Association Website Posts Reasons For High Turnover

Today we look at the American Nursing Association website to gain some tidbits of knowledge and understanding about problems in a professional career track: nursing.   While nursing careers and related workplace organizations may seem foreign to us outside of the healthcare field, the problems, issues are still typical in many ways.

One valued article posted on the site is entitled:  Tripping over the welcome mat: Why new nurses don’t stay and what the evidence says we can do about it”, Issue Date: June 2012 Vol. 7 No. 6 by R. Twibell, & et al.

The authors write about “Why new nurses leave…” by reporting new nurses give reasons for leaving the career path as including: work hours; lack of “intrinsic and extrinsic workplace rewards”; no autonomy; and poor peer and management relationships.  These are typical of most high turnover causes in organizations.  Take some time to digest this insightful article and learn by taking corrective actions in your own organization.
