Could Making New Year’s Resolutions Be Outdated?

 When we think of making resolutions to lose weight, or saving money for a vacation, or whatever, we normally think of setting goals to achieve the same.   The goals are the steps necessary to attain the end result.   Now, some claim that making resolutions has proven to be not effective as a self-management concept.  Stephen Shapiro, self-proclaimed Innovation Expert thinks so.  He promotes the idea of making “theme-based resolutions” in place of “goal-based resolutions”.  As the author of “Goal-Free Living”, Shapiro cites statistics that claim only about 8% of people making goal-based resolutions ever achieve them.  He argues that by setting theme-based resolutions that focus on building your own positive energy, you will have more success and become stronger in your core personal values.   This is a strategy that points to developing, maintaining and growing more happiness in your life.   Developing more friendships, spending more family time, avoiding negative people, these could all be characterized as themes, directions, or even passions.  Read more
