To Think Or Not To Think – How We Respond To Goals! In Psychology Today.Com

“…if you are high in Need for Cognitive Closure, you tend to make decisions very quickly, while if you are low in Need for Cognitive Closure, you tend to avoid making a decision, preferring instead to deliberate about the options.

Why does this matter? The amount of time that someone spends making a choice affects what kind of information that they use to make that choice. Research on these individual differences suggests that people who try to make decisions quickly use easily available aspects of the environment to make a choice.”

Illustrating cognitive closure, we might say that former President George W. Bush made many decisions based upon his gut feeling about issues, where as many of us use celebrity endorsements, and media ads to make decisions.
