Teaching Career Development

What should be included in a career course? One assumption discussed in this book is that “The career development course or workshop should be personal.

- Instead of teaching how different groups experience career development, first ask …participants to reflect how their gender, disability, or cultural group has impacted their own career development.

- Instead of lecturing how to administer and interpret a career assessment, have students complete several assessments to learn by doing."

The focus of this book is to assist in enhancing the instruction of career training and education by posing ways to increase reflection and critical thinking by participants. The adoption of active learning strategies into teaching is proven to increase course evaluation ratings.
