Working Remotely Relieves Stress. So notes a study by Kathryn Fonner of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in HRM Guide Network, 11/30/10.
Working remotely is often derailed in organizations where communications have been historically poor. This is one aspect that needs to be addressed in order for telecommuting to be successful.
Kathryn Fonner writes in this same posting that organizations should consider several strategies to increase job satisfaction and notes, in part, the following:
- Limiting meetings and mass emails.
- Noting special times of day when office-based employees get to work uninterrupted.
- Creating a free-from-retaliation method where employees can voice concerns without fear.
Telework can save the U.S. economy billions of dollars in travel and related costs, and associated quality of life expenses from reduced medical costs.
