DETC 2010 Survey Reports Graduate Satisfaction

The Distance Education Training Council is a non-profit educational association that operates a nationally recognized accrediting association called the DETC Accrediting Commission. This entity is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. The DETC, by its own description, defines, maintains, and promotes educational excellence in distance education institutions. Currently, they accredit over 100 institutions, which are comprised of degree-granting, postsecondary, military and high schools. They include both domestic and foreign-based schools that literally offer hundreds of courses.

DETC conducted a 2010 survey of its member institution graduates that revealed:

18% of graduates are ages 46-50 and make $71-80,000 dollars per year.

20% received Associate degrees; 34% Bachelor degrees; 33% Master’s; 6% Juris Doctor; 2% First Professional degree and 5% Professional Doctorate. It took an
average of 3.8 years to earn a degree.

48% earned their distance study degree by using the online method.

99% rated the depth of knowledge and teaching competence of faculty as adequate or superior.

87% answered yes; there was sufficient communication with the instructor to meet their goals.

73% indicated they were successful in transferring credits to other institutions.
